Winter Hot Toddy

The Hot Toddy dates back to the nineteenth century in either India or the UK.  In researching this drink, I couldn’t believe how many people swear by this as a cold remedy.  They say that this is one old wives tale that is actually true.  It soothes a sore throat, quiets a cough, clears stuffy noses and encourages sleep.  The alcohol has an anti-inflammatory effect on mucous membranes and can help reduce a fever.  It will sweat the cold out of your system.  It is recommended to breathe in the hot steam and then sip the toddy slowly.

Don’t feel you have to be sick to enjoy this wonderful hot toddy.  This is also good to warm your bones and put cheer in your heart on these cold winter days and it’s just plain delicious!

We are having a few warmer days right now in Alabama, but they say if you don’t like the weather here then just stick around a couple of days, it’s sure to change and we have a lot more cold ahead of us.  So drink up people…..and ENJOY!!!

1 cup black tea

1/4 cup whiskey, bourbon or rum

1/4 cup honey

2 tbsp fresh squeezed lemon

1 cinnamon stick

2 cloves

Combine all ingredients and give it a good stir.  Sip away!
